Highway Design 2013

This issue contains nine papers concerned with highway design. The papers are categorized into four parts. Part 1 addresses geometric design. The five papers in this part discuss passing maneuvers on a two-lane rural road; analyzing horizontal sight distances using lane centerline coordinates; roadside clearance limit on horizontal curves with transition arcs; safety impacts of design exceptions on nonfreeway segments; and defining and quantifying interchange complexity. Part 2 addresses landscape and environmental design. The one paper in this part discusses traveler preferences, values and behaviors associated with public rest areas. Part 3 addresses context-sensitive design and solutions. The one paper in this part discusses network selection of infrastructure projects. Part 4 addresses hydrology, hydraulics and water quality. The two papers in this part discusses wheat straw wattles for velocity reduction in ditch check installations and green infrastructure design for pavement systems subject to rainfall-runoff loadings.
