Payment of Uncollected Tolls at CVSs
Japanese highway operators including West Nippon Expressway Company still accept cash-payment even though most highway users pay by ETC, Electronic Toll Collection System. Occasionally it is not possible to collect tolls at toll gates because highway users don’t have enough cash. In such a case, users are allowed to pass the toll gates on credit and collect tolls at an early date. Some of uncollected tolls remain unpaid and become lost. To improve the payment rate of uncollected tolls, the authors established new system to enable highway users to pay uncollected tolls at convenience stores (CVSs). The authors will show overview of this system and its procedure.
