Human behaviour
This article discusses the continued occurrence of rail accidents (despite engineering interventions) and highlights the research field of Human Factors, which helps to explain the role of human error in these accidents. Research being conducted at Heriot-Watt University includes the feasibility of rail data monitoring, an approach that would allow for the collection and evaluation of On Train Data Recorders (OTDR) data to detect trends as well as to recommend and assess countermeasures.
