The Analysis of Information Features for Multisource Traffic Information Fusion

Instant traffic information services play an important role in ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) technology. There are several kinds of traffic information collection techniques. With so many different sources of traffic information, how to use data fusion techniques integrating heterogeneous traffic data from multiple sources becomes a hot topic in the research field of (ITS). In this paper, the authors will propose three factors to evaluate the quality of the traffic data. A weighted fusion method based on these three factors is utilized to verify the usability of these factors for traffic information fusion. The authors use the proposed data fusion method on both freeway and urban area roads in Taiwan. The experiment results prove that the proposed fusion method can efficiently improve the information coverage rate and sustain the accuracy of the speed information at the same time. Therefore, the proposed three factors are adequate for traffic information fusion.
