Determination Method of Freeway Speed Limitation for Accident Prevention

Speed limitation is one of the basic methods of freeway safety operation management. Basic principles, basis, and implementation methods of speed limit (SL) were systemically put forward, which serves freeway safety operation management. Basic principles of speed limit include safety, economic and constant. Basis of speed limit is discussed, which includes design speed (DS), operation speed (OS), environment, and alignment. Based on those studies, methods of implementation were put forward, which include section speed limitation, point speed limitation, sectionalization speed limits, and so on. Finally, theoretical results have been applied to Tongling-Tangkou-Tunxi freeway in Anhui province.
