RAILWAY TUNNEL WORK PACES MINE CONSTRUCTION
An 18-mile railroad, 17 miles of it running through the base of the Andean slopes is under construction in Southern Peru to transport copper ore concentrate from grinding mill 11,600 ft above sea level. Tunneling, which includes one 9-mile bore plus four shorter ones, is described.
