Environmental Protection and Landscape Design of Freeway through a Tropical Rainforest Region
Simao-Xiaomengyang (Sixiao) Freeway through the rainforest in Yunnan province is a national ecological highway demonstration project in China. Following the principles of nature, harmony, and balance, with equal importance attached to functionality and safety, and minimal damage to the zoological environment, engineers succeeded in making Sixiao road an environmentally friendly expressway. The impact of freeway construction on ecology and the environment is discussed alongside the features of the Sixiao Freeway. Based on these, environmental protection measures and landscape designs with Yunnan-style in Sixiao freeway are proposed and analyzed, providing a valuable reference for future road construction and environmental protection in tropical rainforest regions.
