Public lighting assets
An intelligent, networked public lighting system can help improve urban areas. Street lighting can help ensure safety and establish a city's identity and social environment. Much of the world's roads are currently lighted by technology dating as far back as the 1960s. Upgrades using light-emitting diodes could save a significant amount of energy. Additional upgrades to improve public lighting include networking the system, which could save energy and reduce costs. Networked lighting infrastructure can be monitored remotely, dimmed during low-traffic hours to save energy, and can digitally plan maintenance works to reduce street blockages. Developing connected public lighting will require a strong public-private partnership, and the final product will enhance the livability of the city.
