U.S. GRAIN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM MEETS ITS GREATEST CHALLENGE
In the most remarkable year in the history of U.S. farm exports, fiscal 1973, the U.S. grain transportation system accomplished a major task. It moved 80 million metric tons of grain--over 60 percent more than in the previous year. This massive grain movement represents 90 percent of the volume of all agricultural exports in a year when both value and volume of U.S. farm shipments leaped ahead by more than 50 percent--to over $12 billion and 90 million metric tons.
