Application of CFD Methods for the Assessment of Ship Manoeuvrability in Shallow Water
Safety in water transport plays a significant role. One way to increase safety in waterways is to ensure that ships have proper manoeuvrability. Evaluation of manoeuvring properties performed at an early stage of design can detect problems that later would be difficult to solve. To make such an analysis the numerical methods can be used. In this paper the numerical method to evaluate ship manoeuvrability on shallow water is presented. In addition, the procedure of determining hydrodynamic coefficients on a basis of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculation is shown. The simulation results of inland ships are compared with experimental data.
