America’s Infrastructure: Bridges
While the number of structurally deficient bridges in the U.S. has been declining over the past decade, more than 10 percent of the nation's bridges remain in need of repair or update. This paper defines the terms structurally deficient bridge, functionally obsolete bridge, and deficient bridge, then provides a chart showing the percentage of bridges considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete for each year from 2005 through 2012 and a table listing the deficiency status of bridges in each state for the year 2012.
