THE STRESS-STRAIN RELATIONSHIP IN SOIL MECHANICS
IN LABORATORY TESTS, THE RELATION BETWEEN STRESS AND STRAIN IN SOIL SAMPLES IS USUALLY TAKEN AS BEING REPRESENTATIVE OF SIMILAR SOIL IN-SITU. THE EFFECTS OF TIME AND SIZE OF DEPOSIT ARE EITHER IGNORED OR ONLY PARTIALLY ALLOWED FOR. A METHOD IS DESCRIBED USING MAJOR AND MINOR STRAIN PARAMETERS WHICH ENABLES A RELATION TO BE FORMULATED BETWEEN THE THREE QUANTITITES, STRESS, STRAIN AND TIME, WHICH CAN BE APPLIED TO ANY SPECIFIED DIMENSION. /TRRL/
