OPEN WATER PERFORMANCE OF PROPELLERS
The method developed reproduces recorded open water characteristics for all propellers considered within experimental accuracy. As such this method appears to be most suitable for rapid assessment of open water characteristics for several design attempts within actual production of propeller models. It offers a realistic alternative to the normal tank test where the propeller works in homogeneous wake. It should be added, however, that the method involves empirical correction functions and ultimate goal--an exact calculation of propeller performance with included non-linear boundary layer theory etc, i.e. proper solution of Navier-Stoke's fundamental relationships.
