The right combination
Through the integration and collaboration made possible by a design/build/operate contract, a water reclamation facility that meets some of the most stringent effluent standards in the nation was delivered $1 million under budget and seven months ahead of schedule. The Spokane County Regional Water Reclamation Facility, located on a redeveloped brownfield, is improving water quality and the environment by reducing the levels of phosphorus and other nutrients discharged into the Spokane River. The 8 millions of gallons per day (mgd) facility can be easily expanded in phases to have a capacity of 24 mgd. The treatment facility combines aesthetic features characteristic of the region with state-of-the-art treatment technology and odor control. The two public buildings, the Treatment Operations Facility and the Water Resources Center, were designed and constructed in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.
