Enabling Next Generation Emergency Call Service
Initiatives such as eCall are a necessary step towards improving road safety by assisting individuals to seek help from emergency services. However, there are still a number of unmet needs of stakeholders in the emergency chains and a number of deployment challenges that need to be overcome. In this paper, the authors present those needs and discuss the key functionalities that are required to improve the basic eCall. The authors describe the SafeTRIP emergency call service that exploits the strength of the SafeTRIP platform to provide those functionalities. The paper concludes with a discussion of the deployment challenges and possible solutions that can be supported by the SafeTRIP platform.
