Spectroscopic Appreciation of Road De-Icers in Soil and Water Samples
In order to avoid traffic disruption during winter, roads and airports are the subject of a specific maintenance that is based on the application of de-icing materials. Under the influence of weather conditions (wind, precipitations, …) these chemicals are transported out of the roads and end up in the surrounding environment. In order to evaluate their environmental influence, the estimation of the quantities that are thus transported is needed. However, very few tools permit their detection and quantification of de-icing materials. Over the past five years, a spectroscopic tool has been developed to quantify these products in the water present either onto or next to transport infrastructures.
