WHY DESIGN A NEW CITY?
This is a speculative position paper on a very large-scale system that may be suitable as a national goal. The paper discusses some of the pros and cons of constructing a free-standing city of 1 million people within the continental United States in this decade. It then illustrates the initiation of planning using basic graphical techniques. Transportation is among the physical subsystems of the city that most intensely interact with other urban components.
