RELIABILITY: THE NEW DIMENSION

Electro-Motive locomotives presently incorporate the advantages of an established reliability program which untimately benefits the railroads in better locomotive service and the builder in reduced customer complaints and better product recognition. The latest models are achieving good reliability records. Mainline locomotives have a normal service life exceeding 15 years and thousands of units are still operated after 20 years, or longer. The diesel engine normally operates 6 to 12 years before being rebuilt. In freight service, locomotives average about 150,000 miles annually with some units running over 250,000 miles.
