In search of the tipping point
North American railroads of both large and small sizes are searching for other ways to power their trains, as the price of diesel fuel continues to rise. This article takes a look at whether or not alternative fuel sources, such as liquefied natural gas, compressed natural gas, and batteries, could achieve mass acceptance. Evolving engine technology is also discussed.
