Long-term damage to roads caused by utility reinstatements
This report discusses a study conducted for the Scottish Road Works Commissioner (SRWC). The study collected data on the likelihood of utility reinstatement projects causing long-range damage to highways and roads. The goal of the study was to collect information that presents evidence of the negative impact that utility reinstatements can have on the lifetime serviceability of a road. The report offers evidence that utility reinstatements do indeed cause long-range damage to roads. The report also recommends that greater attention, care, oversight and supervision are needed when constructing reinstatement edge joints. In addition, the report suggests an alteration of detail that would improve joints constructed in the future.
