RETARDING FORCE OF ELECTRODYNAMIC CAR RETARDER
This paper describes a method of calculating the electromagnetic retarding force produced by the eddy current induced in rolling freight car wheels. Using a simplified model representing the effect of the eddy current, an approximated calculation formula for the retarding force is derived. Experiments conducted on a small-scale and actual car retarders show good agreement between the calculated and measured result.
