CHARACTER RECOGNITION DEVICE FOR SOUNDINGS ON NAVIGATIONAL CHARTS
Automatic digitization of numerical sounding data from navigational charts has been obtained by use of a low-speed sampling vidicon camera mounted on an X-Y mechanism and connected to a PDP-8 computer. Output is in the form of the numerical sounding value, together with the position coordinates. A simple and reliable recognition process used, suitable for well-formed numerics, is described.
