When operating nuclear power plants, various emergency situations can arise. A specific characteristics of certain of these situations, for example failures in the reactor, is related to the possibility of dangerous spread of radioactivity. Accordingly, a great deal of significance is attached to reliability problems and especially to safety of nuclear plants on ships. Numerous data have been published on the safety problem, with much attention being given to nuclear power plant safety in the reports at the International Symposium on Atomic Ships ( Italy, 1960 ). This report addresses the safety aboard atomic ships from the standpoint of problems related to the internal properties of the power plant components.
