PRESSURES ON THE BOW DUE TO WAVE IMPACTS
A satisfactory technique has been developed for the measurement of the pressures caused by waves hitting the bows of a ship model. The use of this technique has shown the magnitude and character of the impact pressures to depend on ship speed and sea state, and the results of such experiments make possible the prediction of the maximum safe speed for any selected design limit of impact pressure for a particular ship form and sea state.
