1,200-FT GRAVING DOCK
Design and construction of the largest drydock on the Great Lakes is described with special attention given to the walls, floor, gate and pumping systems. Founded directly on competent natural shale, the floor supports keel block loads of 180 tons each, located anywhere. The shale matrix provided easy economical excavation. Principal dimensions are 1250 ft times 130 ft times 25 ft. Location is Erie, Pa.
