REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUES FOR DETECTING OIL SLICKS
The paper discusses the applicability of various remote sensing techniques for detecting, identifying, mapping, and measuring the thickness of oil films on the surface of the water. Techniques that make use of both the spectral and spatial dimensions are surveyed and the signature properties of oil, along with sensor characteristics, are reviewed. Each technique is analyzed as to its weather capabilities, kinds of data obtained, and quantity and quality of information gathered.
