DRY-CARGO SHIPS FOR SEA AND RIVER NAVIGATION
SUKHOGRUZNYYE SUDA DLYA MORSKOGO I RECHNOGO PLAVANIYA
Proposes a new type of vessel with the width of hull varying with the draught. Designs are given for low-draught river-and-sea-going vessels to carry ore, grain, and lumber from the Yenisey River to European ports, without transshipment during the arctic summer navigation season, and to transport apatite from Murmansk. The new ore vessel will have several times lower moment of disturbing force, and considerably greater period of rolling. The stability characteristics of this type of ship are compared in a table with such of the usual type of dry cargo carrier. Basic elements and characteristics of the ships proposed for lumber transportation are given. The economic aspects of the proposed type of vessel are treated by I.A. Feldman and A.A. Dmitriyev, qv. and the entire proposition is criticized by A.A. Rodionov, qv.
