Capacity upgrade
A new railway flyover in the east of England is having steel spans erected in order to increase capacity for passenger and freight traffic and eliminate a bottleneck on the network. The bridge is part of a 2.3km-long single track electrified railway consisting of a 837m-long viaduct, 1.2km-long embankment and the bridge itself. It is expected to eliminate delays of nearly 30,000 minutes each year and will allow the line between Hitchin and Cambridge to be kept open while the other line is undergoing maintenance.
