DIRECT SHEAR DEVICES - BOX

THE SHEAR APPARATUS DESCRIBED IS OF THE HARVARD SHEAR BOX TYPE, 2 1/2 IN. BY 3 1/2 IN., EQUIPPED WITH EITHER GRATINGS OR POROUS STONES. THE THICKNESS OF THE SAMPLE IS DETERMINED BY MEANS OF THE STRADDLE GAUGE AND THE AMES DIAL. VARIOUS DIRECT SHEAR TESTING DEVICES ARE DISCUSSED AND A TABLE IS PRESENTED ALONG WITH ILLUSTRATIONS OF APPARATUS CONSTRUCTION.
