Revisiting the Future of Travel Planning
This paper reports the core findings of a new book, "Sustainable Transport, Mobility Management and Travel Plans" which investigates the development of a travel plan as a concept and explores its future use. A travel plan is a mechanism for delivering a package of transport measures targeted at a specific site by an agent with a strong relationship with the local transport users to deliver transport and wider goals to the organizations and society as a whole. Travel plans have been central to addressing a variety of transport challenges by engaging the organizations and people that are responsible for generating traffic demand. The purpose of this paper is to present a series of conclusions and some future scenarios for travel planning based on the extensive research undertaken to write the book. These have been used to lead into a series of recommendations, practices and policies that more effectively apply the Travel Plan concept and to explore what this might mean for Travel Plan in the future.
