OPTICAL WAVE RECORDERS
A description of an optical wave recorder is presented. This device gives continuous measurements unlike other wave recording instruments which are in use. This unit is especially suited for intermittant operation, is portable, and needs no external power source. It can be set up easily, and it provides a direct measurement of surface elevation. This wave recorder is inexpensive, but it is not automatic and is affected by poor visibility since the operator must sight a target buoy in order to get the measurements.
