This article takes a look at the ways in which France's urban areas are changing with the implementation of new regulatory tools that have fueled many new ideas, from revising urban planning around the automobile to supplanting the automobile in favor of alternative modes of transport. Specifically, enhancing pedestrian and bicyclist mobility is a focus, with details presented of the ways in which this is being achieved, including speed calming, street network sharing, promoting and encouraging walking and bicycling, streamlining interface between buses and bicycles, facilitating intermodal connections, and proper signage and guiding information.
