ARCTIC OFFSHORE RIG FEATURES AIR CUSHION AND ICE-MELT SYSTEM
An offshore drilling system, capable of operating in the hostile environment of the Arctic, has been designed and is now ready for construction. This Arctic Drilling System (ADS), combines a huge air cushion barge with modern offshore drilling equipment an an ice-melt positioning system, in order that the rig may travel over ice or water to the drilling site, and then have the capability to work the well regardless of the movement of the ice surrounding the rig. A complete description of this drilling rig is given, with the operation of the various components of the system explained in detail.
