AUSTRALIAN OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCES WITH UNMANNED ENGINE ROOMS
The Australian National Line has acquired over three years of experience in the operation of unmanned engine rooms, and this article describes the operational experiences with regard to performance and maintenance factors, machinery maintenance and manning considerations, ship performance, social considerations and other factors. As a result of the data and experience acquired, it is felt that unmanned engine rooms are a practical and reliable proposition that can produce economic savings due to either a reduced manning scale or increased shipboard maintenance efforts, or a combination of the two.
