SURFACE-EFFECT SHIPS APPROACH A NEW BEGINNING

The United States effort in surface effect ships design is briefly reviewed. The fundamental operating principles and characteristics of such craft are discussed, along with implementation in the design of 100 test models, one propelled by water jet pumps, the other by semisurbmerged controllable pitch propellers.
