FIVE-COLUMNED SEMISUBMERSIBLE PROVES ITSELF IN THE NORTH SEA
A five-columned, pentagonal shaped semisubmersible drilling rig has been operated and tested in the North Sea, and it has come through these operations in very good condition, and with a minimum of down time. The reasons for the success of this type of rig are explained, and subjects such as modifications to later rigs, operating conditions encountered in the area, and mooring problems are also discussed.
