WE'VE GOT TO GET WORKING ON THE RAILROAD

This article advocates a balanced transportation system with the railroads in a central position, and a shift of passenger travel back to the railroads. Specifically, this article recommends: halting further highway construction in urban neighborhoods, restoring passenger trains to the 1950 level, banishing large trucks and trailers from the public roads, reducing the automobile accident toll by making railroad passenger service attractive, rebuilding waterways for transport of freight and passengers, and relying more on walking for urban transportation. Since this article was published in two national magazines, it may be of some significance in forming public opinion.
