Road and road transport in Australian statistical review 1959/60 - 1974/75
This report is the seventh in a series published by ARRB since 1968 describing in broad aggregate economic terms the role of roads and road transport in the Australian economy, drawing comparisons with other transport modes where feasible. Aspects covered include: transport elements of national accounting aggregates, employment in transport, freight movements, taxation of road users, road finance, vehicle numbers and fuel consumption. Limitations on coverage and reliability of statistics used are outlined to prevent possible misuse of data. The date of effect of the statistics covered is the first of April 1977. Information examined indicates that irrespective of measures use roads and road transport maintained or increased in importance in the period 1959/60 to 1974/75, both in relation to other transport modes and to the Australian economy in general.
