Some notes concerning the use of foundation in Indonesia
This paper discusses the construction of roads in Indonesia using the telford foundation method. The method involves the use of large stones as the pavement layer. Indonesia has 36,000 km of highways which consists of national and provincial roads. Most of these roads have been constructed with a telford foundation. With the introduction into Indonesia of a new road construction method when the jarkarta by-pass was constructed in 1961, road construction have gradually shifted towards the new technique known as the granular system. This paper compares the two methods of road construction and recommendations are then made.
