Stiffness analysis of box girders
The torsional behaviour of a thin walled box girder of asymmetric cross section is described in terms of the actions of torsional moment, transverse bimoment and warping bimoment and the corresponding displacements of twist, distortion, and warping. The relationship between these actions and displacements is derived for a segment of girder, suitable for use as a finite element. The method is used to study the behaviour of box girders relevant to crane structures and the influence of internal diaphragms in limiting the distortion and warping stresses in these structures (a).
