Multi-modal public transport network for Bandung (Indonesia)
The population of Bandung Metropolitan Area (BMA) is over 5.5 million inhabitants and expected to reach 7 million people in the year 2000. Due to rapid development of inhabitants and the related business and industry sectors, traffic problems in Bandung are becoming serious. Therefore, to relieve this growing traffic congestion, a solution is needed. A comprehensive integrated transport system is thought to be essential. This paper will mention in great detail an integrated urban and suburban public transport system for Bandung and its surrounds by stressing the approach in choosing the potential main corridors (rail-based) together with their feeders (road-based). This paper also mentions some constraints (financial, political and technical) which have to be taken into consideration.
