BCC pavement management system - a strategic planning tool
Brisbane's Pavement Management System (PMS) dates from 1977. It was developed before the methodology of PMS became a topical subject with researchers, therefore the Brisbane PMS has been tailored to meet the demand of local needs. Although it was developed in isolation, the system elements are similar to those proposed and adopted by other Australian authorities. However, the detail within the elements varies from other PMS's as it was adopted to suit the local criteria. The elements discussed in the paper are: a) the inventory system; b) the road surface classification; c) historical information; and d) forecast modelling (degradation model).
