Development of passenger car engine oils

During 1988, there was extensive development of passenger car engine oils, following the introduction of the API SG specification. This paper reviews these performance changes, and discusses their effect on engine oil formulations. The influence of European and Japanese engine manufacturers is also addressed (A).
