The disposal of stormwater runoff soakage
Extensive use is made in Perth of soakage pits, known locally as sumps, for the disposal of stormwater runoff. In this paper, a design method for sumps is presented. The method is based on developing simplified cumulative inflow (run off) and outflow (soakage) hydrographs to assess the required storage volume. To verify the appropriateness of the design method, twenty two existing sumps in the Perth area have been surveyed and a comparison made between the storage volume available with that predicted as being required by the design method (a).
