LABORATORY TESTS ON ASPHALTIC CONCRETE FOR AN IMPERVIOUS MEMBRANE ON THE VENEMO ROCK-FILL DAM
THE ARTICLE CONCERNS TESTS MADE ON ASPHALTIC CONCRETE TO BE USED FOR THE UPSTREAM MEMBRANE OF THE 60-M HIGH ROCK-FILL VENEMO DAM. THE TESTS CONSISTED OF THE DETERMINATION OF THE PERMEABILITY OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE TO WATER AND BITUMEN, COMPRESSION TESTS, SLOPE TESTS AND TESTS WHICH AIM AT DETERMINING THE EFFECTS OF WAVES, ICE AND SOLAR RADIATION. THE TESTS SHOW THAT, IN ORDER TO OBTAIN AN ASPHALTIC CONCRETE WHICH SATISFIES THE DEMANDS FOR IMPERMEABILITY AND DURABILITY, THE CONCRETE SHOULD HAVE AN AIR POROSITY OF LESS THAN 3-4%. /AUTHOR/
