SOIL SURVEYS FOR RESOURCE PLANNING
THE SOIL IS A NATURAL RESOURCE WITH MANY COMPLEX CHARACTERISTICS AND QUALITIES THAT VARY FROM PLACE TO PLACE. A SOIL SURVEY IS NECESSARY TO IDENTIFY INDIVIDUAL SOILS, AND DESCRIBE THEM UNDER PRESENT CRITERIA TO BE PLACED IN THE NEW SOIL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. THE HISTORY OF SOIL SURVEY ACTIVITIES IS REVIEWED. SOIL LIMITATIONS IMPORTANT TO URBAN DEVELOPMENT ARE SHOWN BY SLIDES. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT EACH STATE SHOULD DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE STATE LAND USE WHICH IS BASED ON SOIL SURVEYS AND WITH ACCOMPANYING LABORATORY DATA.
