FIELD MEASUREMENTS OF LATERAL EARTH MEASURES ON A CANTILEVER RETAINING WALL
TERRA TEC PNEUMATIC AND GEONOR VIBRATING WIRE EARTH PRESSURE CELLS ARE USED TO MEASURE THE LATERAL EARTH PRESSURES ACTING ON A TYPICAL CANTILEVER RETAINING WALL. ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS AND WALL MOVEMENTS COVER A PERIOD OF 147 DAYS. BACKFILL MATERIAL IS TESTED TO DETERMINE ITS PHYSICAL AND ENGINEERING PROPERTIES. EARTH PRESSURES ARE COMPUTED BASED ON RANKINE AND COULOMB THEORY AND COMPARED WITH MEASURED EARTH PRESSURES. PROCEDURES USED TO CALIBRATE THE EARTH PRESSURE CELLS ARE PRESENTED IN SOME DETAIL. /FHWA/
