THERMAL PROTECTION IN LIFE RAFT EXPOSURES
On the basis of thermal insulation, protection in these life raft exposures was increased 20 percent by use of the survival heater; 36 percent by use of the infrared reflective liner; and 100 percent when heater and liner were used in combination. Heater efficiency was improved approximately 25 percent by the reflective liner. This infrared reflective plastic liner, as demonstrated by these experiments, is a simple, lightweight non-bulky ( 56 grams and 3 cubic inch volume ), inexpensive means to improve the thermal protective property of a life raft.
