GEOTECHNICAL INTERPRETATION OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS - A STUDY OF THE RELIABILITY OF THE METHOD
IN ORDER TO GET AN IDEA OF THE RELIABILITY OF AERIAL PHOTO INTERPRETATION FOR DETERMINING THE DISTRIBUTION AND LIMITS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF SOIL, A STUDY HAS BEEN MADE OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE ANALYSIS OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS AS COMPARED WITH GEOTECHNICAL AND GEOLOGICAL FIELD SURVEYS OF THE GROUND. THE REGIONS STUDIED WERE MALARDALEN-SODERTORN AND THE SOUTH-WEST PART OF SWEDEN. THE COMPARISON HAS INCLUDED THE IDENTIFICATION OF DIFFERENT SOIL TYPE AREAS AND THEIR BOUNDARIES, AS WELL AS AN ESTIMATE OF THE RELATIVE DEPTHS OF THE FINE-GRAINED SEDIMENTS.
