STABILITY CHARACTERISTICS OF ORTHOGONAL TRIBARS
Laboratory investigations were conducted to determine the stability characteristics of newly developed units in the construction of rubble-mound breakwaters. Small-scale breakwater sections were constructed by hand in a wave flume 31 m long, 90 cm wide and 90 cm deep, and subjected to regular waves, generated by a plunger type of wave generator. In all tests, two layers of units were constructed in the cover layer. The optimum slope at which these orthogonal tribars can be constructed, that would limit the effectiveness of a breakwater, were also determined experimentally.
